Cooked Bones and Dogs

January 16, 2011 by z3admin

10 Reasons Why Cooked Bones Are Bad For Dogs:

1. Broken teeth or torn gums. While certainly not life threatening, a broken tooth or injured gum can cause a lot of pain for your dog, and may also require pricey dental work.

2. Bone may get stuck in or around your dog’s lower jaw. Because of the way your dog’s mouth is shaped, bones can become easily lodged both within and around the lower jaw. Depending on the way the bone is jammed, this may require a veterinary visit for removal and/or treatment of the injured tissue.

3. Mouth and tongue may get cut or injured. Again, not necessarily deadly, but can prove to be a very painful experience for your pet and a costly one for you if the injured area becomes infected. [Read more…]

Pit Bulls Helping the Blind

December 14, 2010 by z3admin

This video is unbelievably touching – and a great piece of positive pit bull press! Pit bulls lend a helping paw to blind children, showing their true colors as lovable, loyal, intelligent and faithful companion animals.

The real story, however, is the fact that NBC decided to do a positive pit bull piece. Kudos to them for taking the road less traveled, despite Jillian Rappaport’s insistence on bringing the breed’s “bad rap” up more than once, and almost ending the segment with this suggestive line, “This is definitely an aggressive… not aggressive, but dominant, breed…”. A Pitbull and Chihuahua Love Story

November 30, 2010 by z3admin

The story below came to me via one of the many animal rescue email lists of which I am a member. Please take this opportunity, whether you’re snuggled up to your pittie cuddle buddy or prefer to remain on the other side of the fence from a Pit Bull, to put your stereotypes aside and read this story for what it truly is – A Love Story.

I am a Pennsylvania State Dog Warden and I received a call concerning two strays that showed up on a front porch early one morning.

However, the Chihuahua would not allow me to get near him but would not leave the Pit Bull behind…….So I thought of a plan to get the Chihuahua into my truck. [Read more…]
