Walter – A True Breed Ambassador

August 4, 2010 by z3admin

Walter the Pit Bull was left on the streets to die. See how this tiny puppy once affected with mange has blossomed into a happy, healthy and well adjusted adolescent.

Kudos to the Today Show and NBC for airing this Pit Bull positive article! We need more clips like this to be aired in the mainstream media to help change people’s perceptions about these wonderful dogs. MSNBC also featured a story of pit bull service/therapy dogs assisting blind children. The clip has since been removed from their website (not sure why), but you can read my thoughts on it here – Pit Bulls Helping the Blind [Read more…]

Tips to Keep Your Bully Safe

August 4, 2010 by z3admin

Unfortunately, owning a bully breed dog such as a Pit Bull, American Bulldog, Bull Terrier, etc. often means that you don’t catch any breaks. One small incident is all it takes to jeopardize the life you share with your pet. YOUR dog may not be trained to fight, but the propensity for fighting exists throughout their lineage, and it is in your dog’s best interest to protect them from situations that may escalate into trouble.

Keep in mind, while dogs are pack animals, the history of the Pit Bull and related breeds have created a dog whose pack is human in nature, not animal. They do not always do well meeting other dogs they do not already know, and in most instances it’s preferable to avoid it all together. Most of these dogs really can’t be bothered with making new dog friends, so do them a favor and always do introductions in a neutral zone, when both dogs are calm, and with owners who have a solid knowledge of their particular dog’s behaviors, mannerisms and preferences. WARNING – The video contains graphic material.

This video shows why Breed Specific Bans do nothing to solve the problem of bad pit bull owners. Educating the public about pit bulls and the injustices people commit against them is one of the best ways to advocate for them. Our pit bulls can’t talk, so let this video be their voice. [Read more…]

10 Reasons Not to Trust a Pit Bull

July 28, 2010 by z3admin

Top Ten Reasons “Vicious” Pit Bulls Can Not Be Trusted

  1. They will steal your spot on the couch while you are up getting popcorn.
  2. They will wag their tail with such exuberance and excitement when you return home that it knocks over everything on your coffee table.
  3. They will jump on your bed with muddy feet.
  4. They will excitedly welcome and lick visitors with an uncontrolled passion only they understand.
  5. They will cause children to smile (and most likely want to ride them around the house like a pony).
  6. [Read more…]

Dog Ate Fish Oil

July 8, 2010 by z3admin

I came home from a quick, two hour long trip to the store to find a 400 capsule bottle of fish oil pills spilled out onto the dog’s bed. We’ve been giving them one, 1000 mg capsule per day to help with arthritis and inflammation – turns out they like them a bit too much… Upon closer inspection, and a re-count, I estimate that my dog(s) ate between 150-175 of the Omega-3 Fish Oil pills. Both dogs seem fine (even the one I know ate them all on his own). After doing some reading and researching of my own I’ve found that there is no “remedy” for a Fish Oil overdose, either in dogs or humans, and that the best thing to do is to offer supportive therapy.
