PETA Sets New Record for Killing Animals
PETA, the “animal rights” organization that supports breed specific bans, and an end to ownership of animals as companions (for more information see the post - PETA’s Pit Bull and Companion Animal Policies) set a new record for 2008. Documents published on the website PETA Kills Animals show that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals killed about 95 percent of the pets placed into their care during 2008, which translates into roughly 5-6 animals euthanized each day. The public records available through the VA Department of Agriculture and Consumer services show PETA killed 2,124 pets in 2008, placing only 7 in adoptive homes. Over the past 10 years PETA has slaughtered over 20,000 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, and other pets. (more…)

Reasons Why Sarah Palin is NOT a Pit Bull
I am sure you have heard the comparisons in the media likening McCain’s vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, to a ‘Pit Bull’. Palin herself even made reference to this when accepting the Republican nomination for vice president, saying that her lipstick is only thing that separates a hockey mom like her from a pit bull. I think I can speak for the Pit Bulls on this one when I say that they are outraged at any comparisons even mentioning their breed and this woman in the same sentence. To even imply that Sarah Palin has even a few of the outstanding characteristics that describe Pit Bulls is utterly preposterous. (more…)

Tiger Attack Blamed on Pit Bull
When three tigers attacked a worker at an exotic animal park in southwestern Missouri on Monday all eyes were on the Pit Bull. In an attempt to cover up the tiger attack, the owners and associates at the park went ahead and cleaned up the site, telling authorities that the victim had been attacked by a Pit Bull. Only later during the weekend were authorities told what really happened, and were subsequently led to the tiger’s carcass, which had been taken to another property as part of the cover up. (more…)

Verizon Pit Bull Commericial Ad
I really hope that Verizon has decided to pull their vicious Pit Bull ad before this article gets posted, and just in case they have succeeded in removing it from the web, I will break down the storyline for you (most recent working video below). In the first shot we see a wannabe hipster kid standing on the opposite side of a fence for some sort of junkyard. Next thing you know, hipster kid is jumping the fence into the auto wasteland to get closer to the object of the commercial, the LG Dare mobile phone. The sleeping Pit Bulls that had been guarding the junkyard have now been awakened by the stranger’s presence, and charge toward him as he reaches to touch the screen of the phone. The hipster is saved from mauling due to the fact that the dogs have run out of chain, and they are pulled back away from the kid as the commercial ends. For more information on this topic visit Startup Fiance to see the video and commentary.

Natural Flea Prevention and Control for Dogs
Adult fleas are not only a nuisance to humans and their pets, but can cause medical problems including flea allergy dermatitis, tapeworms, secondary skin irritations and, in extreme cases, anemia. Adult fleas are about 1/16 to 1/8-inch long, dark reddish-brown, wingless, hard-bodied (making them very difficult to crush between your fingers), have three pairs of legs (hind legs enlarged enabling jumping) and are flattened vertically or side to side, allowing easy movement between the hair, fur or feathers of the host. Fleas are excellent jumpers, leaping vertically up to seven inches and horizontally thirteen inches. (An equivalent hop for a human would be 250 feet vertically and 450 feet horizontally.) They have piercing-sucking mouthparts and spines on the body projecting backward. (more…)

Pitbull Heroes
All admirers of this breed know that the American Pit Bull Terrier is capable of some pretty amazing feats. The dogs featured in this article are true canine all-stars, risking their lives to save that of their family and using their intelligence, dedication, obedience and loyal nature to protect those they love. I can only hope that in the same way a few poorly trained, unsocialized Pitbulls are able to stigmatize the entire breed as vicious animals, that featuring a handful of the outstanding pit bull dogs will have the same effect. Enjoy the stories below featuring these pit bull heroes and be sure to spread the word of their good deeds, the more positive Pit Bull press that is out there, the better is for our dogs. (more…)

Let the Pit Bull Bashing Continue
I was searching for my daily dose of online news when I stumbled upon this short port in the Dallas Morning News Opinion Blog, the title of which reads, “The Pit Bull Scourge”. With a title like that I figured this poster must have some solid facts and/or evidence to back up his position as to why Pit Bulls should be considered a scourge to society. I already had my arsenal of facts and myth fighting words ready as I opened up the page, and I was ready to start a war of words with an undoubtedly ignorant Texan that assumes all Pit Bulls are inherently evil creatures. I must say I was very dismayed when I actually opened to the post, turns out it was pointless amalgamation of sentences that could have been transcribed by a 5th grader . (more…)

The Mike Vick Pit Bulls - One Year Later
Before receiving an email from the Humane Society of the US, I had not realized it has already been a year since the Michael Vick dogfighting controversy first started. In total, forty-seven Pit Bulls were taken from Vick’s residence in Smithfield, VA. Over the past year, many of the dogs taken from the Vick compound have been rehabilitated - some going a handful of rescue organizations, while 22 of them will spend the rest of their days at Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah, a no-kill animal shelter. Only one of the dogs, despite the torture all forty-seven of them endured at the hands of Vick and his crew, had to be put down for human aggression; one out of forty-seven. (more…)

Ban Bathtubs, Not Pit Bulls - A Letter to StopPitBullAttacks.Com
The message that follows was sent to the owner/webmaster/administrator at a site called Stop Pit Bull Attacks I just thought I would take it upon myself to inform him or her of the possible implications the breed specific bans they so fervently support could have on their community, the lovely area of Independence, Missouri. Ignorance is inexcusable.
“To Whom it May Concern, I really hope you read this email, and I hope even more that you have the mental capacity understand what I am going to try to tell you.

PETA’s Pit Bull and Companion Animal Policies
I used to think PETA stood for “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals”, but the more reading I do, the more it becomes apparent that their moniker should actually read, “People Euthanizing Terrific Animals”. Feel free to read through their official policies yourself here - PETA’s Position on Pit Bull Bans (more…)

Pit Bull Myths
Aren’t Pit Bulls mean? Well so-and-so told me they have a special enzyme in their mouth that lets their jaws lock together! My cousin said to NEVER adopt a pit from the shelter because of their unknown history - they will just turn on you in an instant. Those are just a few of my favorite Pit Bull myths I have come across when people find out I own a Pit Bull. Now for the truth: (more…)
