Pet Resume

Moving doesn’t mean you have to give up your dog!

Create a Dog Resume

pet-resume-example-tuckenroeLandlords can be very particular when choosing whether or not to rent to tenants with pets. Trying to find a new apartment or rental home with a dog can be downright discouraging for pets of any size, especially if your best friend is over 15 pounds.

The first step in overcoming the issue of renting with pets is understanding why many property owners are weary of renting to pet owners. They may have had a bad experience, or gotten stuck with an outrageous bill after a tenant left an apartment in disarray. There are also safety, liability, and other issues with pets that everyone can understand.

If you really want a particular apartment, or have little time to find a new home – you need to get creative. You need to convince and reassure your potential landloard that both you and your pet are respsonsible, clean, “well trained” and fully capable of keeping the apartment in good condition.

Need Help Renting with Dogs – I’ve Been There

As the owner of two dogs – Tuckenroe & Guapini (click to see their live resume examples) – I have been through the trials of attempting to find a rental with large dogs. I quickly grew tired of hearing, “sorry, we don’t accept those types of dogs”, and decided to think outside the box.

As a pit bull and bully breed advocate, I’m happy to share with you the information I have learned and help you along the way. While each situation is unique, I have no doubt that you will find the advice and resources I have to offer useful.

Gather Information

The more information you can provide demonstrating your dedication to being a caring pet owner, the more likely a landlord is to rent to you.

From my experience I have found the following documents to be extremely helpful when when “presenting your case” to a potential landlord:

  1. Pet resume highlighting the best features of both you and your pet
  2. Recommendation letter from your current landlord attesting to the fact that you are a responsible pet owner
  3. Certificates or other documents showing that your dog has completed a training class, temperament test, etc.
  4. Pet health record showing your pet has been spayed or neutered and vaccinated against rabies
