I am sure you have heard the comparisons in the media likening McCain’s vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, to a ‘Pit Bull’.  Palin herself even made reference to this when accepting the Republican nomination for vice president, saying that her lipstick is only thing that separates a hockey mom like her from a pit bull.  I think I can speak for the Pit Bulls on this one when I say that they are outraged at any comparisons even mentioning their breed and this woman in the same sentence.  To even imply that Sarah Palin has even a few of the outstanding characteristics that describe Pit Bulls is utterly preposterous.

Reasons Why Sarah Palin is NOT a Pit Bull:

Sarah Palin Pit BullFirst, Pit Bulls are loyal.  Once a pit decides to stand for something, or support someone, they will stick by that decision.  You would never find a Pit Bull wavering on their decision to support their master, but Sarah Palin has been known to flip-flop on major decisions concerning the people she is supposed to be protecting (earmark spending, bridge to nowhere, and book banning – to name a few).  A Pit Bull would fight to the death for their people, do you think Sarah Palin has this same gladiator spirit for her fellow Americans?

Second, you can trust a Pit Bull.  My Pit Bulls would never hurt anyone, but I do not think the same can be said of a woman that supports overturning Roe vs. Wade, and not allowing the victims of rape or incest the option to have an abortion.  How many women will die seeking out back room abortions under her reign?  How many more soldiers will have to die in Iraq?  How many more jobs will be lost?

Third, a Pit Bull would not back down in the face of adversity.  Pit Bulls are constantly working to improve their reputation, but Palin does not seem to be putting any effort forth to put to rest any of the rumours circulating about her.  A Pit Bull would not be content with hiding in a closet somewhere while people spread untruths about them; they would want to get out there and show the world what they are all about, and what makes them so wonderful.  A Pit Bull steps up to any challenge, and will never run away from a situation because of fear; Pit Bulls do not allow themselves to be marginalized or stereotyped, whereas Palin seems perfectly content to play the gender card.

Fourth, Pit Bulls are honest and straightforward with the public.  Nothing is off limits for a Pit Bull, unlike the numerous questions and situations that are apparently not acceptable to present to Sarah Palin.  Pit Bulls are also not afraid of dealings the public, unlike Sarah Palin. Pit Bulls thrive on attention from the public, they do not cower in the corner, even when faced with supreme ignorance.

Lipstick Pit BullFifth, Pit Bulls are loyal Americans.  Pit Bulls have been involved in amazing feats of heroism (Pit Bull Heroes) and have been historically considered as a symbol for America, even as recently as WWII.  How American is Sarah Palin?  So American that she was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, an Alaskan state’s rights party whose agenda includes pushing for a vote that would allow Alaska to secede from the United States.  Their motto?  “Alaska First — Alaska Always”.

It appears that in true, Fundamentalist Christian/Neoconservative, Republican fashion, Palin and her associates must be referring to some other type of Pit Bull.  The only likely mixup to me would be that the Repulicans must subscribe to the ignorant philosophy of what a Pit Bull really is, and they are choosing to use that type of Pit Bull to describe McCain’s runningmate.  There are always two sides to every story.  So if you choose to believe that Palin is an unstrustworthy, mentally unstable, dangerous, baby-eating, and tenacious meanie, that is fine by me, just so long as you are aware that your imaginary Pit Bull dogs are nothing like the ones we all know in real life.

Don’t Insult My Pit Bull

Bravo! I got in a rage when I heard Sarah Palin, who I have never heard of before (or since; I’m English, in the UK) saying she is a pit bull. A pit bull is loyal and faithful. Sarah Palin is some woman who will fade – if she has not already – from the public’s mind LONG before the pit bull will. Sarah Palin is one of those people who p**s me off; she’d run a mile from a pit bull – yet is quite happy to use the reputation for her own gain; she’s like those chavs who use pit bulls as penis extentions, because they’re really just wimps who need to look hard.

Must correct errors in above piece. SP and Repubs never said she was a pit bull. She was describing a hockey moms tenacity. She is a woman of integrity, courage, and true womanly feminism. I could only hope that more women would model themselves after her. Your article writer and above contributors could use such an excellent role model.

I’m a pit bull rescue org here in NorthEast PA. I have rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed over 100 pit bulls right in my own home. To all you morons with opinions on whether Sarah Palin is a pit bull and whether that’s insulting to pit bulls….REMEMBER THAT SOME OF US AREN’T LEFTIST LIBERALS, even us pit bull rescuers. And take OFFENSE to your isolated opinion….as the issue of pit bulls, their exploitation, their image etc., this is NOT a political issue. It’s an issue of the LOVE of the BREED! So for you to twist it into a political forum is self-indulgent bullcrap. GROW UP and stick to the issues! I don’t come to these forums to hear your political spewing!
